Origin and Distribution
It is a genus of plants in the Hydrangeaceae family, commonly known as hydrangeas. The genus includes species native to the eastern regions of Asia and the Himalayas.
Characteristics
The distinctive feature of this plant is its flowers, gathered in more or less spherical inflorescences that bear mostly sterile flowers, especially the outer ones, which are replaced by large, petal-like sepals, while the other floral parts are aborted. In most species the flowers are white, but in some they can be blue, red, pink, violet or dark purple. These changes are due to different soil pH.
