Autumn is at the peak of its intensity, and the shades become warmer and more vibrant every day. Even more so at Parco del Mottarone, where the contrast between the colors of nature and the blue of the surrounding lakes makes the landscapes truly unique and stunning.
The woods of the mountain, located between the provinces of Novara and Verbania, turn at this time of year into a mosaic of golden and reddish hues that accompany the ascent with ever-changing views. On a typical November day, the leaves form a colorful carpet while the air is filled with the scent of damp earth. When the sun shines, the atmosphere becomes bright and magical.
At the beginning of the trail in Parco del Mottarone, along the Strada Privata Borromea, alternate beeches, larches, field maples, spruces, birches, pines, and chestnut trees. Among the fallen leaves hide porcini and chanterelle mushrooms, a sign of a thriving and lively undergrowth. Higher up, as you approach the summit where the landscape opens up, you encounter rhododendrons, junipers, and ferns; in the meadows and among the rocks ripen blueberries, raspberries, and wild apples.
It’s an ideal time for those who love walking immersed in nature: the park’s scenic trails offer spectacular views of Lake Maggiore, Lake Orta, and the Alpine range. Along the way, you can take relaxing breaks in the equipped rest areas or reach the summit of Mottarone, where the view opens up 360 degrees over peaks and lakes.
Parco del Mottarone is the only Terre Borromeo site open after November 2 for walks and excursions. It’s a time of transition and preparation for the winter season: the adventure park is closed, but nature is at the height of its autumn beauty, and the trails offer a refreshing sense of well-being. From the autumn foliage and seasonal fruits of this period, the landscape gradually shifts toward winter, awaiting the snow and the much-anticipated reopening of the Ski Park.
Parco del Mottarone is a place to experience in every season — to recharge in silence, savor the local flavors, spend genuine days in nature with family and friends, and enjoy the fulfilling simplicity of the mountains.
