An exciting return to nature took place at Parco Pallavicino, where a young female goshawk took flight again after about a month of care and rehabilitation. The bird of prey had been found in difficulty, unable to fly, by a citizen in Gravellona Toce. It was probably a collision with a wire inside a garden that caused her a bruise.
Thanks to the intervention of the Provincial Police of Verbano Cusio Ossola, the animal was entrusted to veterinary care and temporarily hosted in the park, where it was fed and treated, beginning a rehabilitation process.
“Parco Pallavicino supports the Provincial Police by providing the flight tunnel, a structure that makes it possible to test the strength and suitability of the bird of prey before release,” explains Tommaso Calligarich, biologist and head of animals at Parco Pallavicino. “Here we also host some wild specimens recovered from the area that are unrecoverable or in pre-release, which, as in this case, can be prepared for their return to nature.”
After a few weeks of observation in an aviary and training in the tunnel, the goshawk regained strength and confidence in flight. It was a gradual process, with repeated tests to ensure that the specimen had reached its full potential, up to complete autonomy.
With the release and reintroduction into the wild of the goshawk, a story of care, collaboration, and respect for wildlife comes to an end, bearing witness to the shared commitment between Parco Pallavicino, the Provincial Police, and the local community in protecting animals.
