The opening of the Castles of Cannero, the new Terre Borromeo cultural site on Lago Maggiore, is growing ever closer. Sales of entry documents to visit the museum starting from Saturday 28 June will very soon be open via the website and at the group's ticket offices and infopoints.
Preannounced by the work to dismantle the crane that has enabled the major upgrading and building restructuring project to take place over recent years, this is a symbolic moment marking the end of restoration activities.
The cutting of the ribbon is scheduled for Thursday 12 June and is reserved for the institutions and public authorities with the patronage of the Piedmont Regional Authority, the Lombardy Regional Authority, the Provincial Authorities of Verbania-Cusio-Ossola, Novara and Varese, and also of numerous Municipalities in the territory of Lago Maggiore: Angera, Arona, Baveno, Belgirate, Besozzo, Cannero Riviera, Cannobio, Castelletto Sopra Ticino, Dormelletto, Germignaga, Ghiffa, Ispra, Laveno-Mombello, Leggiuno, Lesa, Luino, Meina, Monvalle, Oggebbio, Porto Valtravaglia, Ranco, Sesto Calende, Stresa and Verbania.
Located opposite the towns of Cannero and Cannobio, on the border with Switzerland, the new museum site originating in the first half of the 15th century is being returned to its ancient splendour, with the addition of the most modern technologies. Visitors will be able to discover the fascinating history of the fortress in a journey from dry land to the waters of the lake, following the pathways between the courtyards, the keep and the walls.
Marina Borromeo, Head of Special Projects at Terre Borromeo, states: “We are happy to be able to announce the now imminent official inauguration of the Castles of Cannero, a project that is very ambitious and delicate on account of both the dimensions of the restoration intervention and the position of the small islands surrounded by the lake. A project begun in 2019 and rendered even more complex due to the forced interruptions caused by the pandemic, today the territory, which has responded with interest to our project, is enriched by a new modern museum in a highly impactful natural setting”.
Entry for adults: 25 euros, including transport and audio guide for the museum route.
