Origin

Grasslands and wetlands. Migratory species, winters in tropical Africa and nests in Europe, preferably on chimneys, trees, rooftops.

 

Diet

Large insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, small mammals and invertebrates

 

Curiosity

It reaches up to 1 meter in height and weighs from 2.3 to 4.4 kg with a wingspan of 2 meters. Recognition between male and female occurs by flexing the head and neck backwards while emitting a characteristic sound that is amplified in this way. It is a symbol of conjugal love and particularly of piety, attributed and maintained through the centuries from the Egyptians to the Renaissance.
